Erma Forbes RN, BSN

President and Founder

The Gil Carter Initiative, a non-profit organization, with 501c3 status, was formed to commemorate the accomplishments of Mr Gil Carter, a native of Topeka, Kansas and a successful baseball player in the Baseball Negro League; and also to continue his work with kids in the community.

The idea for this commemoration took root with his care giver who supported him during the last year of his declining health. Through many conversations with him and with several of his friends and acquaintances, his history as an accomplished baseball player and his dedication to community activities in support of the under-privileged youth of Topeka was discovered

Prior to his death in May 2015. Among the topics discussed with him, was how he would like to be remembered, and what format such a memorial should take. Through these discussions, he gave his approval to start a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and supporting youths in the city of Topeka and surrounding areas who are socioeconomically challenged.

In December of 2015, the Gil Carter Initiative became a reality. Welcome to our web -site.  We look forward to working with you.
